My April 2018 #readathon progress post! books, pages, and my #giveaway!

This post will be stuck to my front page, and updated throughout the readathon.

For reference, please see my previous post.

I woke up late today, so I did not get started reading until about 11 AM – the readathon started at 8 am! I’m disappointed that I couldn’t get up earlier, but hopefully I can squeeze in something like 12 – 15 hours of reading. Also, I’ll be moderating the thread during Hour 15 over in the Goodreads group so come say hi!

Remember, I’m donating $25 per book finished to the animal shelter in Las Cruces, and would love to donate at least 100 dollars!

ALSO REMEMBER, there is a giveaway during this readathon. Enter to win a copy of Strays by Jennifer Caloyeras via my rafflecopter!

So, here’s my book logging, with that start time, in 2 hour increments.

  • TOTAL BOOKS READ: 4
  • TOTAL PAGES READ: 847 (I think… lemme double check my math)
  • TOTAL AMOUNT TO DONATE: $100

11:00 – 1:00 done!!!

Two cups of tea, some vegan yogurt, and I’m going back and forth between two books. I woke up with a sore throat, so I will be drinking a LOT of tea today! I read two chapters in Strays (chapter blogs to come!) and I started Elizabeth and Zenobia by Jessica Miller.

  • Books Finished: none yet
  • Pages Read: 92

1:00 – 3:00 done!!!

For the first 40 or so minutes I read more in Elizabeth and Zenobia. Right now my cat Lana is laying on top of me as I read:

Reading Elizabeth and Zenobia was such a pleasant experience! The book is children’s literature but it’s themes and wit could definitely be appreciated by adults. The illustrations were fantastic as well. Look at this:

I just love it.

3:00 – 5:00 Done!!!

I forgot that I have 2 eBooks on hold at the library – Everfair by Nisi Shawl and Ice Wolves by Amie Kaufman. I just loaded them on my Kindle and taking a quick break around the house before I start reading again!

I didn’t start reading again until 3:45 due to things I had to do around the house. I did a reading sprint for 1 hour and managed to knock out 57 pages in An Unkindness of Ghosts.

  • Books Finished: N/A
  • Pages Read: 57

5:00 – 7:00 done!!!

raskol book

Starting my hour with now Raskolnikov laying next to me. (My favorite place to read/hang out is on the couch. I cannot read in bed!) That’s a sci-fi book I’m reading, it’s soo good so far.

My goal is to knock out 50 more pages in An Unkindness of Ghosts, take a break to make some popcorn, and then go back to Strays.

I ended up reading 31% (or 108 pages) in a new book called Ice Wolves, and 15 pages in An Unkindness of Ghosts.

  • Books Finished: n/a
  • Pages Read: 123

7:00 – 9:00 done!!!

So I decided to finish Strays since I was so close to being done! I’ve been blogging the book chapter by chapter, as you probably know. So here’s what I’m gonna do. I will go back and write posts for the remaining chapters in the book, to be published over the next week or so. This way I get to officially finish out my Reading Series for the book, and also hopefully encourage some of you to get your own copy!

I took time to get out of the house for a bit. I walked to Rite Aid to get a few things. I’m settled back inside now and going to do an hour word sprint. Would like to get close to finishing Ice Wolves in this sprint!

9:00 – 11:00 done!!!

It’s about 9:30 and I finished my one hour reading sprint in Ice Wolves. I got to 56% of the book, or page 192.

I’m getting ready to moderate hour 15 (although it’s really hour 14? i don’t get this lol) over at the goodreads group. Gonna squeeze in some more reading before it comes to my time over at the discussion thread!

Hopefully I can squeeze in some reading. Will have to short 10 or 15 minute reading sprints during the hour from 10 – 11. Really want to finish Ice Wolves

  • Books Finished: n/a
  • Pages Read: Not quite sure, my ebook status is at percentages, will find out when I’m done with the book. At 11 PM I am at 82% in Ice Wolves.

11:00 – 01:00 done!!!

Ooh, I’m starting to get sleepy. I’ll see how late I can stay up. I really wanted to finish 4 books today, and I’ll be finishing up Ice Wolves pretty soon. I need to find an easy-ish book to read after this. Luckily I have a YA horror book from the library that I can try, and probably other options around the house too. I would have liked to read more of An Unkindness of Ghosts or Frenchman’s Creek, but both are bit heavy to read when I’m so tired.

ice wolves

love the cover to Ice Wolves… would have taken a proper photo of the book but I read it on my Kindle!

I also started Asa Nonami’s short story collection, Body. I got about 44% through it in a bubble bath. Took a break to have some tea and toast and I found another middle grade fantasy novel that I may try to knock out after I finish Body.

  • Books Finished: Ice Wolves by Amie Kaufman (goodreads review here)
  • Pages Read: 236 (since I didn’t count the pages in my earlier logs) + 85

01:00 – 03:00 done!!!

Got a late start during this 2 hour chunk, it’s about 1:30 now. Time to focus on the short story collection.

Its about quarter to 3 here and I just finished Body. I am too tired to read more right now. I may give myself until 11 am tomorrow to finish the challenge (official start time was 8, but I overslept). I would really like to read one more book as it would increase the amount of money I’m donating. But if I don’t then 100 bucks is great, too!

  • Books Finished: Body by Asa Nonami
  • Pages Read: 107

FINAL UPDATE

So I thought maybe I could wake up early and get some more reading done before my 11 am deadline but that didn’t happen. It’s okay though – my goal was to read at least 4 books and I did that!

As stated earlier, I pledged to donate 25 dollars per book that I completed to the animal shelter in Las Cruces, New Mexico. I am doing that now and will update with proof of my donation!

…and the donation is done!

I wish I could have donated in sweet Penny’s name.

I hope the money can help the animals of Las Cruces go to loving homes so they can have a life full of love and happiness like Penny got to have.

Well, with my books completed and the donation sent, I guess the readathon is now officially over for me. I think it was successful for me in that I got to catch up on my reading goals, finish the book I’ve been blogging, and help homeless animals.

BOOKS I FINISHED DURING THE READATHON:

I made it a point to read only women authors.

I’m already looking forward to the next readathon in October. Hope you will join me!
