Chances are that if you follow my blog, you are already a vegan and well aware of the environmental devastation caused by animal agriculture. But for those of you who are unaware — or those who simply want more information — The Restore-Our-Planet Diet: Food Choices, Our Environment, and Our Health is a book that you should check out. Since I am interested in how diet impacts the environment, I am definitely going to get myself a copy! I went vegan for animal ethics, and in the past two years I have only begun to learn how my diet impacts the environment. I am always looking for new information, and maybe more importantly, how to better explain the information to people who are interested.
According to the book’s author Dr. Patricia Tallman, The Restore-Our-Planet Diet “describes the costly environmental and health impacts of the standard western diet, centered on meat and dairy. […] This ground-breaking book will appeal to the eco-conscious and the health-conscious segments of the population. It is the first book to reveal, on a personal level, the detrimental impacts imposed upon the environment and human health due to our prodigious meat and dairy consumption.” Readers will learn how meat and dairy harms not only animals but both the environment and our personal health. Dr. Tallman helps readers transition to a healthier and eco-friendly diet by including many mouth-watering recipes such as Corn and Potato Chowder, Vegetable Goulash, Yam and Black Bean Chili, Quinoa with Fennel and Walnut Salad, Calzones, Potato Salad with Vegan Sausages, Cinnamon Pancakes, Brownies, and Vegetable Frittatas.
Author Dr. Tallman has an impressive resume — she received her Doctorate in Water Resources Engineering (University of British Columbia, Canada) and a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering Sciences (California Institute of Technology, USA). She’s written numerous articles regarding a plant-based diet and the ethics of eating animals. She has been vegan for over 10 years. Obviously she has an impressive grasp on the subject! You can read Dr. Tallman’s blogs at her personal website here, and the official website for the book is here.
The Restore-Our-Planet Diet has been endorsed by John Robbins (author of Diet For A New America; President of The Food Revolution Network); Neal Barnard, MD (President of Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine); Victoria Moran (author of Main Street Vegan and The Good Karma Diet); and Keegan Kuhn (filmmaker and co-director of Cowspiracy); and others.
The Restore-Our-Planet Diet is available on Amazon.
