I’m Back!

Anyone still here?

I really missed blogging, but I just couldn’t find time to do it. I’ve been working full time and doing two different internships. One internship was research and cite-checking for an upcoming book on animal law and environmental law. I learned so much in my research — especially international law issues — and proud that me and the other research assistants will be receiving an acknowledgment in the book! The other internship is for the author Sonia Faruqi, whose book Project Animal Farm will be released in July. I’ve read the book (expect some more posts about that soon!) and definitely recommend it, especially if you’re concerned with animal welfare in our food production. The book is available to pre-order.

I have also resumed my activism. Recently I took on a role as organizer for the New York City chapter of Direct Action Everywhere (DxE). If you’re in the NYC are and would like to get involved, or even just follow us on social media, we can be found on Facebook.

In January, as I wrote about, I did the Write and Run challenge which was an attempt to run and write every day for the month. I decided to continue with running and I’ve been taking it a lot more seriously. I signed up to do my first half-marathon, which was supposed to take place this past weekend at Bear Mountain, New York. The race is a part of the North Face Endurance Challenge (NFEC) and I had been SO excited to be a part of it, but it had to go on without me, unfortunately due to illness and general disorganization in life. I transferred out of that race and into the Ontario NFEC half-marathon, which will take place in July. Since we already had a hotel booked and a pet sitter arranged, we went up to Bear Mountain for the weekend. I loved hiking and paddle boating and just enjoying my time out of the city. I need to get out of the city more often!

In the winter, I entered the 24 hour short story contest through Writers Weekly. I was really surprised to see my name on the list of honorable mentions! It’s given me confidence to continue my writing and to find more contests to enter. If only there were more hours in the day!

Lastly, I am participating in the 100 For 100 Movement. I’ve committed to running 100 KM (ideally, 100 miles) by the end of May. The challenge is to run 100 KM, eat a plant-based diet, and to raise money for a sanctuary — all in 2 months. I’m already a committed vegan, so that part was easy! I am raising money for Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary, which is one of my favorite places on earth. My fundraising page is here. If you have any spare change, please consider donating! Woodstock is moving in a month or so and any money raised will be put towards their efforts.

Anyway, I’m happy to be back and looking forward to making some changes to the site. I may be changing the format of the page and will also begin looking for more guest posts.

Hope you guys are still with me. 🙂
