Today in Animal Cruelty

  • “A Westville-area man is now charged with severely beating his malnourished dog after the pet killed one of the chickens he kept at his mobile home. Kurt Norem, 47, is charged with two counts of Class A misdemeanor cruelty to an animal.” Southbend Tribune.
  • “A Tampa man has been charged with animal cruelty after authorities discovered 22 dead cats at his home. Investigators also discovered more than two dozen live cats at the residence. Hopkins has been charged with felony animal cruelty and 20 counts of misdemeanor improper confinement.” SFGate
  • “Manatee County sheriff’s deputies help rescue a dog from a hot locked vehicle in Bradenton on Friday afternoon. The interior temperature of the vehicle was measured at 102 degrees. The dog’s owner, Kelly Gabriel, 46, then returned to her vehicle, where she was cited by Animal Services, deputies said.” The Tampa Tribune.

I graduated from St. John's University School of Law in 2012, and am admitted to practice law in New York State. I was a member of the New York City Bar Association's Animal Law Committee for three years. I was born and raised in Rhode Island, but moved to New Mexico when I was 18. After dabbling in film for two years, I graduated from the University of New Mexico with a degree in Anthropology.
